The whole album is on point
Dashboard is back
I've missed you DC!
Got to see DC in Austin last year and couldn't wait to support through getting this new album! My 16 year old self hugged my 34 year old self :)
Love This Album!
I hadn’t really listened to Dashboard Confessionals for at least like 10 years, I had seen they came out with a new album and I thought “why not?”. So glad I got this! Really just chill music with good vibes
carrabba screaming? what more do you need? makes me feel like i did in 2004, and thats a good thing. nostalgia.
Chris Cabrera's voice has been missing in the scene. It's great to hear him back, and full of passion. The record is different in a great way. I think it pushed the band to be better musicians. I feel it was very short, missed the mark just a bit. I still enjoy the record and very much look forward for what they do next. Going to be a spring record to jam!

Always will love Dashboard!!

his voice has gotten older but he can still siing
I see a lot of reviews complaining that DC’s sound has evolved and they miss how Chris & the band sounded 15 years ago. Do you wear your hair and dress like you did 15 yrs ago? Do you watch the same TV shows and go to the same restaurants? Things evolve and so to bands. This is what Chris likes playing now. Lots of people like where he has gone. If you don’t, don’t listen. I think the music is good so, while I did prefer the old sound, I accept that it was their “old” sound. I welcome the new!
From an Obsessive D/C Fan

Back in the day, Dashboard was my number one. I owned every album, every EP, every unreleased demo - Chris Carrabba was my absolute idol.
So it pained me a bit when Alter the Ending came out, and while it was still authentically Dashboard, it just wasn’t very good, and I wondered if the band would ever recover.
This year’s Crooked Shadows definitely caught me by surprise - Admittedly, my expectations were not high, but the first half of this album still has some strong melodic sensibility and clever production tricks. Lyrically, Chris hasn’t been writing at his peak for awhile now, and so some lines stick the landing, while other fall pretty flat.
The last half of the album is the weakest - the ballads that comprise it are not very memorable and sound a bit like leftover Twin Forks (Chris’s short-lived folk pop endeavor).
Overall, the album is pretty middle-of-the-road. The first three tracks are the strongest, the others are hit-or-miss. It’s a pleasant listen for any Dashboard fan, once you set aside any previously-held expectations. Good to see Chris back in action, though.
